Tokyo-Fuji Five Lake-Takayama-Tokyo

I am planning a solo trip to Japan, arrive at Narita airport on 24 Dec 2016 morning and will depart from Tokyo on 1 Jan 2017.

Below is my travel itinerary:
24 Dec - Haneda airport to Lake Kawaguchiko
25 Dec - Kawaguchiko
26 to 28 Dec - Takayama
29 Dec to 1 Jan - Tokyo ( a day trip to Nikko on one of the days.

My questions as following:
a) Is it worth to buy JR pass based on the above itinerary? If yes, how many days pass? If no, what is the suggestion?
b) From Fuji Five Lake (Kawaguchiko) to Takayama, which bus should I take to the nearest train station and which train station is the nearest? And which train should I take to Takayama?

Hi there,

1.) I do think it would be worth it to consider a 7 day JR Pass here. A return Tokyo - Takayama alone is 30,020 yen, while a 7 day JR Pass is 29,110yen, from there you would also have 7 days of unlimited travel.

2.) With the JR Pass, the best route would be to take the Fujikyu train from Kawaguchiko to Otsuki station, from Otsuki use the JR to travel to Tokyo station, then use the Hikari Shinkansen to Nagoya and transfer there to the Hida Wide View Express bound for Takayama.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
