Hello Robert60!

It's nice to see a long time forum member back again!

For your itinerary I would advise a 7 day JR Pass for everyone and use it from Tokyo - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Osaka, this would give you by far the best value out of the pass and you can make good savings at the same time.

The JR Pass is best used when traveling longer distances and it is more economic to buy normal tickets if you travel locally or within a city. Such as in Tokyo and Kansai. So there I'd advise buying a Suica card to make travel easy and convenient.

Local and non-JR transport is not very expansive, however it is hard to give you an exact number. I think that you would spend around 5,000 - 7,000 yen per person for the remaining travel not done with the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
