Hello,

I would like to ask if it is worth getting a JP pass, if I am going to Japan for 10 Days. First 3 days I will be staying in Tokyo.(is JP pass valid for the underground?!)
Then I will go to Kyoto, where I will be staying for 3-4 days. I would also like to visit Osaka, Nara and Kobe, but every evening I will need to return to Kyoto, because my accommodation will be in there.
after 10 days, I will need to return to Tokyo Narita.

Can anyone tell me, if it worth getting a JP pass, or pay a regular fee for each separate ticket?

Thank you in advance!

Maara

Hi Maara,

Yes I do think that it will be worth getting the 7-Day JR Pass.

Here's a little list of savings you can make with the JR Pass

Tokyo --> Kyoto ¥ 13,220
Kyoto Osaka ¥ 1,080
Kyoto Kobe ¥ 2,100
Kyoto Nara ¥ 1,380
Kyoto --> Narita Airport ¥ 15,930

This adds up to ¥ 33,710 or in savings ¥ 5,410, as the 7 Day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300.
I would recommend a [Narita Express + Suica] for your arrival in Tokyo and the first couple of days there.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thank you very much, I booked JP pass :)

I would like to ask about Narita+ Suica pass. I know that there is also a 2 days pass for metro , foreigners have a special price .

What is cheaper to get Narita+suica pass (return) and then get 2 day pass for metro?

Because we are landing to Narita, staying there for 3 days, then going to Kyoto, and coming back in a week time and spending 1 day in Tokyo.

It's quite confusing at the moment as there are so many different passes/companies.

Can we use JP pass for metro/buses in Tokyo?

Thanks,

Maara

Hi Maara!

The many travel packages and deals available do make finding a right one a little confusing.

There are generally 2 great packages available to get to Tokyo from Narita Airport.
The first is the previous mentioned Suica + Narita Express package. The other, that you mentioned, is the [Keisei Skyliner + Metro Pass].
Both offer great value, I would recommend going for the Keisei package if you plan on using the Metro a lot, otherwise take the Suica + Narita express package because you can use the Suica card to travel on most kinds of transport in Tokyo and also in the rest of Japan now.

Here is a map with all JR lines covered in Tokyo.

You can use the JR Pass on local JR lines in Tokyo, which you can use to reach most spots in Tokyo. The metro and non JR-Busses are run by different companies and unfortunately do now accept the JR Pass.

Hope this clears things up,
Daniel
