Hi there

I will be travelling from Tokyo to Mt Fuji and Hakone for a daytrip. Is there any train for me to travel directly to Kyoto from Hakone, instead of traveling back to Tokyo? I will be staying in Kyoto for 2 nights and Osaka for 1 night before travelling back to home country. Please advise the best route, duration and fare. Shall I purchase multiple days JR pass? Many thanks!

Hello there!

Yes certainly, you can make use of Odawara station. This is the Shinkansen station for Hakone and you can ride the bullet train directly from there to Kyoto, saving a lot of travel time.

I would recommend a JR Pass if you return to Tokyo and fly out from there, otherwise I think the best option would be to buy separate tickets for your travels.

Hope this helps!

Hi Daniel-san

Thanks for your reply. If I were to travel to Mt Fuji from Tokyo, which would be the best option, since I will be carrying luggages with me as I will then head to Hakone followed by Kyoto on the same day by Shinkansen. Thanks!

Hi Woocs,

Certainly Hakone, you can leave your luggage at Odawara station (there are huge coin lockers) and explore the Hakone area from there while enjoying great views of Fuji. Alternatively you could use the Shinkansen and a couple of local trains to visit Gotemba which also have some of the best views of Fuji. However Hakone would be my personal preference.

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
