Hi mari,

Happy to know that there is one specialist person in this forum to answer our's inquiries. And so appreciate your prompt and detailed reply to every post.

I plan to buy 2 JR Pass (7 days) travel between Tokyo and Kyoto, i wonder how much can i save according to my itinenary?

23 March 8am from Haneda to Tokyo Asakusa (Bluewave Inn Asakusa), stay there for 2 nights
25 March 9am from Asakusa to Shinjuku Mitsui Garden Hotel Yotsuya,
26 March 8am from Shinjuku to Kyoto Matsubaya Ryokan,
27 March 9am from Kyoto to Hearton Hotel Kita Umeda, stay there for 2 nights
29 March 6pm back to Tokyo Haneda.

I plan to have a leisure trip to see around tokyo and kyoto and enjoy all fantastic food, do you have any good attraction or restaurant can recommend? Actually i wonder any good crab feast u can intro at these area?

I plan to go Fuji-Q to visit the famous roller-coaster and haunted house, do u know how long does the train take from shinjuku to Fuji-Q? and how should i use JR to reach there? What time u will recommend me depart from Shinjuku is better?

I really hope i can fully utilize the JR Pass to have a wonderful trip in Japan.

Looking forward to heard from you.

Thanks

Hi there!

Lets take a look at the costs of your trip:

  1. Haneda > Asakusabashi: ¥680, (30mins, 17.1km)
  2. Asakusabashi > Shinjuku(jr): ¥160, (17mins, 9km)
  3. Shinjuku(jr) > Kyoto: ¥13020, (182mins, 517km)
  4. Kyoto > Osaka: ¥540, (28mins, 42km)
  5. Osaka > Tokyo: ¥13550, (194mins, 556km)
  6. Tokyo > Haneda: ¥680, (30mins, 17.1km)

TOTAL: ¥28,630 for 4 legs

This means that you will make a slight saving off your basic initial itinerary over individual tickets (¥330). Even though the savings are slight, the Rail Pass is a much more convenient way to travel and, you will also gain a lot of flexiblity (for inspiration, see our top day trips from Tokyo). I recommend the rail pass given the similarity in price.

For Crab - I can really recommend you take a look at Kani Do-raku in Osaka. The model of the crab on the shop is unmissable! Here are some reviews on TripAdvisor.

From Shinjuku the total journey time including waiting for a connection at Otsuki is around 2 hours. From Otsuki you will need to use the non-JR Fujikyu line which will cost around ¥1350 each way. If you are in Tokyo, then Shinjuku departure is the best. You can learn more about FujiQ at the official site and how to get there.

Hope this helps!
