The cheapest way to travel between Tokyo and Morioka

I will be arriving in Tokyo on January 27 and touring that city the 27th and 28th. I will take the bullet train to Morioka on January 29th and will need public transportation there. I will return to Tokyo on February 5th, specifically to Norita Airport.
Is it best to buy a 14 day rail pass or is there a cheaper way to travel by buying a 7 day pass and then buying individual tickets?

Thank you.

Hi Bonnie,

Here is a little overview of costs that you would make without any pass.

Narita --> Tokyo ¥ 3,140
Tokyo --> Morioka :¥ 14,040
(Local transport Morioka) ? Morioka --> Narita Aiport ¥ 17,060

This together is ¥ 34240. A 7 day rail pass is ¥ 28.300, if you could fit in your travel to Morioka and Tokyo in 7 days, then you would be able to make some savings.

An other option would be the 4 day flexible JR East Pass. You can use this for 4 days in 1 month and costs ¥ 20.000 in the Northern Tohoku region of Japan. You can use this for your travel to and from Narita and Morioka.

Hope this helps :)
Daniel
