Hello,

We have bought the Japan Rail Pass.

We plan to travel from Tokyo to Nagano via the Hokoriku Shinkansen and take the bus to Ogizawa, then travel through the Alpine route to Toyama station.

Is the JR Pass valid to travel through the Alpine route.

We are not clear about the Tateyama Kurobe Option ticket. Where would we need to purchase it and does it allow us to go through the Alpine route using the cable car, bus and other modes of transport.

Please advice.

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi there,

The Alpine route is not part of the JR Network and thus not included in the JR Pass. You can however use JR trains to travel up to Toyama station.

For information and sales locations see:

Hope this helps,
Daniel
