Hi there,

Yes the Kansai Thru Pass can be used to visit both Koya-san and Nara, so it offers good value for sure!
You may already have seen it but here is a map with everything you can visit.

In Kyoto, you can walk from Ginkakuji to Kiyomizudera but it takes more than an hour. Kyoto is really well suited for bicycling. There are almost no mountains and if you will see many great places you otherwise would not see, alternatively the bus will get you everywhere too.

The cost of the travel you are doing after that would not cover the price of a 7-Day JR-Pass, so it is probably best if you buy tickets as you go. In Hyperdia the Total is the amount that you have to pay and includes the Fare and Seat Fee, the only case if which you don't have to pay a seat fee is if you travel by local train.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for reply, may i know :
1. If I accidentally or intentionally when using the Surutto kansai 3 days pass and board on a Nankai Ltd Exp. Koya 3
for example, it is allowed but just need to pay an additional small sum of fee, upon exit of destination, am i right? 2.If i buy the Kansai 2 days pass. only use on 9/4, plan to use the 2nd day on 20/4 from Kyoto to airport, possible?
seems like i still need to use partial by JR Kyoto Line. My flight is 10.30a.m .would like your suggestion with thanks. The super convenient is Ltd. Exp Haruka 3 85mins to Kansai airport for 3490yen?

Thanks and best regards,
Phylis

Hi Phylis,

1.) Yen you can board them but the conductor will require you to pay the extra limited express fare once you are aboard.

2) Yes the website says that you can use it on non-consecutive days so I think you should be fine if you use it on the 9th and 20th.

3.) The Haruka express is really nice if you have to be at Kansai Airport early but it is also a little pricey. What you can do it buy a 1 day Kansai Pass that is 2000 yen and is valid for travel on the Haruka,if you use it for that, than it's not a bad deal!

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Phylis,

Yes that's correct. Don't select the JR lines/shinkansen in Hyperdia as you will be traveling with an other company than JR.

Let me know if it remains unclear!

Hi Daniel,
Hope you are well. Just check with you regards to the Tateyama Alpine Route.
As I'll be leaving from Takayama to Toyama . I notice the first train is 5.32a.m and takes 140mins arriving Toyama station at 7.52a.m. Wish to start the route early.
Do you think I can buy the Alpine ticket, foward my luggage and take the Chiho Rail at 8.08a.m? coz the next is 8.57am
If i made Alpine ticket reservation on line, will it be faster getting the ticket? Furthermore, if i reserve ticket, i have to
indicate the tateyama cable car boarding time. Hope you can help with thanks.

Hi Phylis,

I am doing well, currently planning my own upcoming trip in Japan, really looking forward to it as always :)

Your plans look great too! It is indeed a good idea to start the route early, you will probably be done before 17.00 but now you can take your time for the route.

It is about 5-8 minutes walk from Toyama station to the Chiho Railway but you should have enough time for the transfer.
Buying tickets online is a good idea because you can skip the ticket queue at Toyama station.

Sorry I did not understand your last remark/question ''Furthermore, if i reserve ticket, i have to
indicate the tateyama cable car boarding time''
The time is only an indication so if you want to take the cable car at a later time but may have to wait if it is full.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Wow, glad to hear you'll be having a break soon and all the best for the trip.
Oh about the question of indicating the time for the cable car boarding as mention in web booking. I was trying
to figure out what time to fix for the carble car ride.wish to start early but worry if the train arrive at tateyama station at
9.59a.m. i cant possibly take the 10a.m cable car. well, I will indicate boarding time of cable car at 10.20a.m and just
try my luck if I can get on earlier ride then. Thank you for all your help and wish you all the best.
