Dear JR Pass Community

We are hoping you can guide us on our itinerary in Japan

Arrive 11st March- Tokyo (Narita Airport)
11st -15th March - Tokyo

Tokyo-Sapporo (by ANA via Haneda Airport)
15th-18th March- Sapporo and Otaru

Sapporo-Kansai Airport (by ANA)
18th-20th March- Kyoto

20th-24th March - Osaka
24th night- leaving Japan

We consider two option in our trip in Japan :
1. Purchasing a 14 days pass JR Pass and activiting it at Narita airport
or
2. Purchasing one way Suica + N'EX package when in Tokyo and round trip ICOCA+Haruka when in Kyoto and Osaka

Which option would be more effective in cost ?
Many thanks in advance

Hi there!

By flying around the country you effectively take away to use of a JR Pass. With that in mind I think it would be best to buy a Suica + N'EX package upon arrival and use the Suica card to travel around. You can later use the Suica card as well to travel to Kyoto and Osaka or purchase a Haruka + ICOCA package if you want to have both cards (they make for nice souvenirs).

Hope this helps!
Daniel
