Order Your JRPass

I'm confused about what the actual 'start date' is.
Is it when the exchange order is presented and when the pass is received?
Is it the first time you make a reservation using the pass?
Or is it the first time you travel using the pass?
For example, if I exchange the pass and reserve a seat on the 12th for a train that leaves on the 13th, which of those dates is the start date?

Thank you!

Hello there,

The start date is the first day that you want to start using the JR Pass. I.e. the first day you want to get on the train.

When you arrive in Japan and exchange the JR Pass, you'll be asked to select your first day of use. This can be right away or at a later date. Once you have exchanged the JR Pass, you can also start making reservations, even if your start date is at a later date.

Hope this explains it :)
Daniel
