Hi,

I am travelling to Japan and arrive in Tokyo on the 17th July 2016. We intend to go straight to Kyoto and spend three nights there.

Then travel back to Tokyo and spend four nights.

We leave Japan on 24th July.

Can you please advise me whether it would be worth investing in the pass? If not can you recommend what would be an alternative option?

Many Thanks,
Mali

Hi Mali,

I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass for your trip. The price of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price.

Having a JR Pass is a great way to explore Japan since you don't have to worry about train costs and adding side visits becomes easy. For instance you could visit Osaka, Nara and Himeji within one hour from Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
