Hi there,
My husband and I will be first time visitor to Japan in December. Below is our itinerary and I really need help understanding if it's worth getting the 14-day JR Pass or not. I have done my own calculation using hyperdia and I think it is cheaper to get it, or at least it comes out to the same price if I were to individually purchased the train tickets. At least this way, I don't have to worry how to purchase the ticket each time I get to the train station.
Dec 6-10 Tokyo
Dec 11-12 Matsumoto
Dec 12-13 Takayama
Dec 14-17 Kyoto
Dec 17-18 Osaka
I know that the travel from Matsumoto to Takayama will not be covered by JR Pass because I would be taking the bus for a shorter commute. So is it still worth getting the 14-day JR pass? I am hoping I could use the pass for some inter-city travel within Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. Thank you.

Hello there,
Looking at your itinerary, I must say that it makes more sense to just buy normal tickets instead of a JR Pass. I am not sure how you counted tickets but the price of normal tickets will be below the price of a 14 day JR Pass. Especially so, if you travel Matsumoto - Takayama by bus.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
