It seems that for most people a railpass makes sense, but having checked hyperdia.com I've come out that my itinerary would be cheaper buying individual tickets. Have I done something wrong?
14 days: Fukuoka -> Hiroshima -> Miyajima -> Koyasan -> Kyoto -> Nara (day trip return from Kyoto)-> Hakone (Odawara) -> Nikko -> Tokyo -> Fukuoka
I've calculated that this would come to 43.060 Yen on individual tickets, instead of the 46.390 for the JR Pass. Also the JR Pass wouldn't include some of the Koyasan trains either as far as I can tell, so it'd be 46.390 + 3000 or so.
Now, even if the calculations above are correct, I'm thinking that the $30/£20 pounds aren't that much of a difference. Would it be worth getting the JR Pass either way because it would allow me to be a bit more flexible and maybe throw in some more day trips from Kyoto or Tokyo? Any thoughts?
