8 adults are planning to go from Tokyo to Hiroshima on October 11, 2015 and then from Hiroshima to Fukuoka on October 14, 2015 and we are debating whether to buy the 7 day rail pass versus individual rail tickets. If we buy the pass, do we also have to get reserved seats ahead of time? Is that included with the pass or is that a separate fee?
Rail Pass vs. individual tickets
Hi there,
If you look at ticket prices Tokyo - Hiroshima ¥ 18,880 and Hiroshima - Fukuoka (Hakata) ¥ 8,950 for a total ¥ 27,830 vs the price of a 7 day JR Pass of ¥ 29,110. So a JR Pass could be useful but only if you would do a bit more travel with it.
The JR Pass does cover the full route and you can either reserve seats ahead of time or just get them before boarding the train.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
