Questions regarding the JRPass

Hi. I'm taking my family of 4 to Japan next year around March. We were planning only 2-3 cities because we are bringing our girls (ages 1.5 and 4).

We are planning of 4-5 nights in Tokyo. Then either go to Osaka or Kyoto and stay rest of the time. We will probably take day trips to the other cities.

Do my kids need tickets? The website says kids prices start at age 6. Would a 7 day pass suffice since we'll be in tokyo first for first few days? Or can this pass be used for regular subway in tokyo also or transport form airport to the hotel?

Thanks!

Mike

Hello Mike,

Children below the age of 6 can travel for free but some restrictions apply for details see:
https://www.jrpass.com/blogs/japan-rail-passes-for-children

The JR Pass covers the JR Network in Tokyo, as well as the travel to/from the airport. The Tokyo Metro, however, is not included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
