Hi!

Am travelling to osaka & tokyo in november with my family: 2 adults & 4 children.

Below is my plan:

20/11 - arrive in kansai around 9am, go for osaka sightseeing - osakajo & museums.

21/11 - full day in kyoto

22/11 - continue with kyoto

23/11 - nara maybe half day, another half day shopping in osaka

24/11 - osaka to tokyo via shinkansen

25/11 - tokyo - hakone

26/11 - tokyo - shibuya, shinjuku, odaiba

27/11 - flight from narita 10am.

what do you think of my itinerary? should i get a 7-day JR pass? can it covers all the places i listed above?? someone actually advises me to buy kansai thru pass. and am not sure which one will be more economical for us, the kansai thru pass & suica/ pasmo (for tokyo) or just JR pass.

pls advise.

many thanks!!

Hi there,

I checked your itinerary for the best options and would advise buying normal tickets for your travel. The JR Pass is great when you travel a couple of times cross country. In the above itinerary this is limited to a one way Kyoto - Tokyo (with a stop at Hakone) which is not enough for a JR Pass to pay off. Within Kansai travel is also very cheap and generally a local pass will only restrict you, so there too would I recommend normal tickets.

Hope this helps!

Hi Daniel-san

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it really helps!!

So, i guess i dont need any pass.. is there any other pepaid card that can be used in both osaka & tokyo area? we would like to save the hassle of buying tickets from machine since there 6 of us.

Really appreciate your feedback!
Thank you.

Hi again!

Yes, you could buy an ICOCA card. Which is valid on all kinds of transport within Kansai and other places in Japan. It would make it much easier to travel around, especially with the 6 of you.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
