Good day, fellow travelers!

I am going to Japan in a few months and I have a few questions regarding using the rail system.

My rough itinerary is as follows:

DAY 1 ARRIVAL INTO TOKYO/ HND AIRPORT- late afternoon
DAY 2-4 EXPLORE TOKYO
DAY 5 DAY TRIP TO HAKONE
DAY 6 DAY TRIP TO KAMAKURA
DAY 7 EN ROUTE TO KYOTO
DAY 8-9 KYOTO
DAY 10 DEPARTURE FROM KYOTO EN ROUTE TO OSAKA- walk around the city. KIX AIRPORT by 6pm.

A few questions:
1) Is it worth it to get a JR pass since I will be arriving in Tokyo and leaving from Osaka?
- IF getting a JR pass is not worth it, which passes should I get for both Tokyo and Kyoto, which would include most of the day trips? 2) What is the best mode of transport to/ from both HND and KIX airport?
3) I read somewhere that there is a transport that people take when exploring Hakone? Which one is this and where can I purchase the ticket?

Thank you for you time! I'm looking forward to this trip. :)

Hi there,

1.) It would be better to buy normal tickets, since you'll be traveling one way Tokyo - Kansai.

2.) It depends on where you want to travel to. Most people either take the Monorail or Keikyu lines into Tokyo. From Osaka you can either use the JR airport rapid service or the Nankai express from Namba.

3.) In Hakone itself, here's more about the Hakone Free Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you so much, Daniel San!

If I won't be purchasing a JR Pass, which passes should I buy for my trip? Or should I just pay as I go?

Hi again!

Yes, pay as you go would be best here.

Another off topic, what do you think of the itinerary? :) DO you think we should add a day trip in Kyoto? It's our first time traveling to Japan and there is a lot of information to take!

Sorry, should I get a Suica/ ICOCA card for my trip or do I just pay per trip?

Do you mean a day trip from Kyoto to somewhere else? For instance Nara is a great trip to make. At the same time, Kyoto really as a lot to do, so you may just be busy there.
