Hi I will be traveling to osaka in 2 weeks and staying in Osaka Namba area for the entire 7 days. Hope to travel to Kyoto and Nagoya by day trips in addition to moving around Osaka and nearby places of interest. Have not firmed up the itinerary but would like the best way to travel and which JR pass to use.

Appreciate your advice. Thanks

Hi there,

I would say buy normal tickets for now. The JR Pass makes great sense if you plan on doing some long distance travel. Going to Nagoya is longest route in your plan and a return by bullet train is around 10,000Yen. However a JR Pass would quickly become worth it if you made a couple more day trips, for instance you could visit Hiroshima and Miyajima.

While in Osaka, an [Osaka Unlimited Pass] may offer some really good value if you plan on traveling around the city while doing some sightseeing.

I hope this helps,
Daniel
