Hi JR

May I know the best route to make the most of my 12 days trip, planning to visit Nagoya, Kyoto, Kobe, Himeji & Osaka. Prefer first stop at Nagoya and last Osaka or vice versa. How should I split my 12 days? Is the 7-day JR pass necessary?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

Regards
OJ

Hello OJ,

It's hard to say how to split your days exactly as you will certainly have your own preferences and places you wish to see. However in general I would recommend spending the larger part of your time in Japan in Osaka and Kyoto as they have by far the most to offer. Himeji is great for a day trip and Nagoya maybe a day or two.

As for the JR Pass, it will be close but I think that it would be best to buy normal tickets as you travel. A one way Nagoya - Osaka is ¥ 6,350 which is by far the more expensive part. Travel between Kyoto, Kobe, Himeji and Osaka does not have to be pricey at all since you can use rapid train services that only require fare for local trains.

Hope this helps!

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for the quick reply.
Btw I be staying at Dormy Inn Nagoya (450-0003, Nagoya Nakamura-ku Meieki Minami 1-11-8) which is 10 mins from Nagoya station would that be the train station I take Hida ( wide view) to Takayama? And upon arrival at Takayama station, can I purchase advance train tickets at the same station for Kyoto?

Thank you so much!
OJ

Hi again!

Yes and Yes!
Nagoya is the station where you get on the Hide express to Takayama and you can reserve tickets in advance at any station you wish :)

Enjoy!

Hi OJ,

Actually I think that they don't have one.

You can purchase tickets at Takayama station.
