Hi there,

I would like to seek your advice whether or not should I get myself and for my hubby a 7-day JR Pass based on my itinerary as follows:

  1. Arrived at Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport (late afternoon about 4.30pm) -----> Nagoya
  2. Will be staying at Nagoya for 2 nights
  3. Nagoya -----> Mount Fuji
  4. Will be staying nearby Mount Fuji for 2 nights (any recommendation where to stay and how to get to Mount Fuji?)
  5. Mount Fuji -----> Tokyo
  6. Will be staying at Tokyo for 3 nights
  7. Will traveling within Tokyo for 2 days and 1 days at Tokyo Disneyland
  8. Tokyo -----> Nagoya -----> Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport

If you think 7 days JR Pass for the above mentioned itinerary is insufficient, please advise me what are the other passes I should get. Also does children below 3 years old need a JR Pass?

Thank you.

Hi there,

I checked your itinerary for the best option and it would indeed be better to buy normal tickets for your travels.

For mount Fuji: there are different possibilities. One I'd recommend would be a visit to Hakone, as it is easy to access from Nagoya. An alternative is to visit Fuji Five lakes, which is also a very popular area. The first lake is called Kawaguchiko. I would recommend visiting this as a day trip from Tokyo as access from Nagoya is not that easy.

Childeren below the age of 6 travel for free, so you don't need normal tickets/a JR Pass for your child.

Hope this helps and enjoy Japan!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for reply.

Would u recommend travel to Mount Fuji area from Tokyo instead of Nagoya?
If I would travel from Nagoya to Mount Fuji, what is the best route travel (what train/subway
/transportation to take?)

What the normal ticket price to travel from Tokyo to Nagoya?

Thank you.

Hi Lorna,

Yes visiting Fuji from Tokyo is somewhat easier. If you travel from Nagoya try to find a package or express bus as rail travel might be too hard. A one way ticket Nagoya - Tokyo will set you back ¥ 10,880.

Hope this helps!

Hi Daniel,

In your first reply, you have recommended to visit Hakone as it is easy access from Nagoya. We have decided to visit Hakone from Nagoya. Are we able to travel from Nagoya to Hakone with JR? If yes, how much does the ticket cost?

Thereafter, we plan to travel to Lake Kawaguchi from Hakone. Is it accessible from Hakone with JR?

Then, we will travel from Lake Kawaguchi to Tokyo.

We are trying to save our expenses on transportation but not familiar with the accessibility with rail, bus, etc as this is our first time travelling to Japan. With this itinerary, will the JR Pass does any savings or normal ticket saves more?

Thank you.
