Hi!

Does anyone know if i can use the JR Pass to get to and from these places without using other lines?

TOKYO to NAGANO for JIGAKUDANI Monkey Park (return)

TOKYO to HAKONE for MOUNT FUJI (return)

TOKYO to KYOTO to OSAKA

OSAKA to NARA (return)

Want to save money as best as i can!

I'll be in Japan for 21 days (13 days staying in Tokyo), what is best option? 7,14 or 21 day pass?

Hi there,

You can make great savings with the JR Pass, even so there are parts in your itinerary that will require additional tickets.

These are: 1.) Travel from Nagano - Jigokudani and 2.) Local travel within Hakone.

I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass is you can cover Tokyo - Nagano - Kyoto - Osaka - Tokyow with it.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

thank you for your reply! Really appreciate it!

Yes i read about this too, for Jigokudani, i can get a snow monkey 1-day pass that costs 2900 yen.

And am i right in saying that the Hakone free pass is about 4000 yen if i take it from Odawara station instead of taking train from Shinjuku (i can use JR Pass to get to Odawara right?)? - Too bad the ropeway is closed!

I've also added Kanazawa to the list...

  • week 1 - Tokyo
  • I'll be travelling to and from Tokyo to Kanazawa, Hakone, Nagano in week 2.
  • then going to Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and maybe Kobe in week 3.

Would 14-day one be better?

And also a question about travelling inside Tokyo - I need a Suica card, for 1 week constant travel, how much does that normally cost?

Hi again!

Yes you are right and can use the JR Pass to travel to Odawara station with the Shinkansen.

With this itinerary a 14 day JR Pass does indeed become an attractive option. Especially if you go to Kanazawa using the Hokuriku Shinkansen. You can visit Nagano as well on the way there.

For travel in Tokyo, a Suica card can indeed be very handy. Normal tickets cost between 150-240yen per ride, depending on the distance.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
