Hi, we will be travelling from Kyoto to Tsugaike on 21st December. Using google map we can either take the:
1. JR Thunderbird then Hokuriku-Shinkansen (at Kanazawa Station) to Nagano then a bus to Tsugaike or
2. Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen then JR Shinano (at Nagoya Station) to Nagano then a bus to Tsugaike

  1. Which options is more scenic? Mountain vs Seaside?
  2. Both Hokuriku-Shinkansen and Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen can use JR pass?

Thanks. JC

Hi there,

1.) I think option 2 is better when it comes to scenery. Especially the part after Nagoya station.

2.) Both are covered by the JR Pass, you could make a round trip to decide for yourself which is better :)

A third option would be to take the Tokaido Shinkansen all the way to Tokyo and Hokuriku Shinkansen from there to Nagano. You can see Fuji flash by on a beautiful day from the Tokaido.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
