Kurobe and Shirakawa-go

Hi,

I would like to travel to Japan in mid-October 2016 to see the Autumn Foliage. We will fly to Nagoya, go to Kurobe Gorge, stay overnight in one of the Onsen Ryokan and also another night at Shirakawa-go village. Is getting the Japan Rail Pass worth it? How many days do I need to be in Japan for these 2 visits? Any other suggestion of places to visit?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Angel,

The amount of travel in your itinerary is limited when it comes to distance and a JR Pass would need more travel in order to be effective.

You can however look at an area pass, for travel to Shirakawa-go. Such as the Hokuriku area pass.

I would spend 1-2 nights around Kurobe Gorge and visit Shirakawa-go as a (half) day trip or a night stay over to see the lightup.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
