Hi,

I have purchased a 7 days JR Pass for my trip to Japan. I am planning a 5 nights stay in Japan (2 nights in Tokyo and 3 nights in Osaka). I will arrive at KIX at 7.15am and would like to go to Tokyo directly from KIX. Would you please advise me on the following:

(I) which JR lines should I take from KIX to Shinosaka in order for me to go to Tokyo? Is the train from Shinosaka to Tokyo run every hour?

(II) In Tokyo, I am staying at Mitsui Garden Hotel Shiodome located Higashi-Shimbashi Minato-Ku. Any JR line for me to take from Tokyo station to the Mitsui Garden hotel?

(iii) Returning to Osaka, I will be staying at Hotel Nikko Osaka located at Nishi-Shinsaibashi,Chuo-ku. Any JR line for me to take from Shinosaka to the Nikko Hotel?

Appreciate your help. Thank you.

Hi there!

The exchange counter at Kansai Airport is open between 5:30-23:00, so you will be able to exchange your JR Pass and continue your journey right after landing. Now let's head into your questions.

1.) From Kansai Airport take the Haruka Express to Shin-Osaka, you can transfer to the Shinkansen (high speed bullet rail) here, which will get directly to Tokyo in under 160 minutes. Both the Haruka express and Hikari Super Express from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo run at least twice an hour.

2.) The Mitsui Garden Hotel is about 8 minutes walk from Hamamatsucho, this is a station on the Yamanote line, just 7 minutes away from Tokyo station. When you reach Tokyo station, simply look for the Yamanote (green) line bound for Shinagawa/Shinjuku and get out at Hamamatsucho. You can walk from here or take a taxi if you are heavy on luggage. For more information see this access page.

3.) You could walk from JR-Namba if you wish, my guess would be that it would take 15-20 minutes reaching your hotel the first time. Alternatively you can take the metro (not covered by the JR Pass) directly to Shinsai-bashi and walk right into your hotel (around 200yen). For more information see the hotel's access page.

Have a good journey!
Daniel
