KIX - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Miyajima - Osaka? - KIX

Hello

We have booked a trip to Japan in early April, and I am wondering if I should buy the JR Pass. I have tried looking on Hyperdia for costs to compare, but the site isn't working?? It directs to something else...

We are flying into KIX (Osaka) and then travel straight to Kyoto. From there we go to Hiroshima and are staying the night on Miyajima before returning to Kyoto. We may then do a day trip to Osaka from Kyoto. From Kyoto we will return to KIX. This will all be over 7 days.

We are 2 adults and 2 children (age 1 and 3). Do the kids also need tickets (I recall they don't if they don't take a seat?)

Is it worth us buying the 7 day JR pass?

Many, many thanks!

Wow - it looks like the hyperdia link isn't working. yikes...

While the hyperdia main link is down, you can use http://gryphon.hyperdia.com/ or http://goo.gl/tk88u to continue to plan your trip.

Here are the base costs of your trip:

  1. Kansai airport > Kyoto: ¥3290, (75mins, 99km)
  2. Kyoto > Hiroshima: ¥10590, (109mins, 380km)
  3. Hiroshima > Kyoto: ¥10590, (126mins, 380km)
  4. Kyoto > Osaka: ¥540, (28mins, 42km)
  5. Osaka > Kyoto: ¥540, (29mins, 42km)
  6. Kyoto > Kansai airport: ¥3290, (79mins, 99km)

TOTAL: ¥28840 for 6 legs

a 7 day rail pass will give you a slight saving over individual tickets, but you'll gain a lot of flexibility, and also any further trips on JR will effectively be free.

We are 2 adults and 2 children (age 1 and 3). Do the kids also need tickets (I recall they don't if they don't take a seat?)

As long as the children are under 6 and travelling with fee paying adults they can travel for free. They can also use seats if they are available but will have to move if the train gets busy.

Hope this helps and thanks for letting me know about hyperdia!
