Hi

I will be traveling to Tokyo in March and staying about 8 days. We are mainly staying in the Tokyo area but would like to go to Kyoto and Iwate to see the Geibikei Gorge. I would like to know if purchasing a JR Pass would be worth it for these 2 trips. If not, what pass would I be able to purchase to visit Geibikei?

Thank you

Hi there,

Yes, A JR Pass would be worth considering for this trip. Think about this, the 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto alone, using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price. So it is easy to make savings.

The JR Pass can also be used for travel to Geibikei.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel for your response

Also, does the pass have to be purchased here in the United States prior to arriving in Japan? Can I purchase the pass at the Narita Airport instead? I prefer to purchase the pass in person.

Another question please. I have looked up the directions to Geibikei Gorge and seen many different instructions which leaves me very confused. How would I get there using my JR Pass? And approximately how long will it take?

Thank you Daniel so much for you have no idea how much this helps me!

Hi again!

The JR Pass has be be purchased outside of Japan. You can do so online with us via this link or look for a local re-seller. We then ship you the JR Pass, we have to do this in order to confirm that the sale took place outside of Japan.

For travel to Geibiki, from what station will you be traveling? For general information see this page.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel

Thank you for your response

Okay, so I will be sure to book the JR Pass prior to my trip.

For Geibikei, we will be traveling from Tokyo, Shinjuku to be exact because that is where we are staying. Is there a specific train we take? Will we have to transfer train and what is the approximate travel time?

Thank you again Daniel!
