Hi there

My husband and I are arriving Tokyo where we'll be staying in Shinjuku for 5 days.Heading to Osaka by JR train and will be staying in Shin Osaka for 4 nights. Planning to visit osaka areas & Universal studio including a day trip to Kyoto. We're leaving Japan from Osaka Kansai Airport. We didn't think JR Pass is worth it as the only long distance is btw Tokyo to Osaka as we're not making return trips. But wasn't sure if it will work out cheaper if we buy the Suica card for regular travels in JR or the subway trains? Can the Suica card be used to and within Osaka and Kyoto as well including the trip to Kansai Airport from Shin Osaka?

Thank you!

Hi there,

Using a Suica (or other) IC card is a great way to make your travel more convenient. Basically it's a prepaid card that you use the pay your fare with. Suica does not offer a discount it is self but should be considered for it's convenience. The Suica card is accepted on most kinds of transport in Japan but not on the Shinkansen. You can however use it for travel to Kansai Airport.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
