Hi there!

I was wondering if you could help me with my itinerary for my future trip to Japan in mid February as followed:

Day 1-2 : Tokyo
Day 2-4 : Osaka
Day 4-5 : Kyoto
Day 5 : Yokohama (day trip)
Day 5-8 : Tokyo

Is buying a JR Pass worth the trip I am planning? I prefer to ride the fastest train (Shinkansen) as well as experiencing the famous bullet train! :) But I don't know whether the price is beneficial for me or not, comparing if I would to take the single trips fare. Will wait for your respond, thank you so much!

Regards,

WD

Hi WD,

I think the best option for your itinerary would be to use a 7 day JR Pass. You can use it for travel between all the cities you wish to visit and make good savings compared to purchasing normal tickets at the same time.

The JR Pass also covers the bullet train (or Shinkansen in Japanese). While you can't use the Nozomi Service between Tokyo and Osaka, you can use the Hikari service instead. These are the same type of trains but make a couple more stops on the way.

If you want the ride the fastest bullet train in Japan, try our the Hayabusa. This train travels north of Tokyo into Tohoku. You could for instance, use it for a day trip to Sendai or Matsushima if you like.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
