Hi Daniel,

We are a family of 4 youngest 13 and arrive at Narita on the night of the 29th Dec. We plan to travel to Kyoto on New Years day and then direct from Kyoto to Nagano (via Nagoya?) on the 4th (so 3 nights Tokyo, 3 nights Kyoto). The JRPass looks great for all that all on a 7 day pass.

However we then travel back to Narita on the 15th and fly home that night. Is there are JRPass we should get for the whole time or could we take a bus from Nagano direct to Narita on the 15th.

Is there anything else you recommend?

Thanks for your help,
Cheers Peter

Hi Peter,

Japan is a great place to celebrate new year! Kyoto especially is nice to experience the 1st day of the year celebrations and traditions.

For the return to Narita Airport, going by express bus is also what I'd recommend in this case. It will be the easier option, since you most likely will have a good amount of luggage with you.

As for Nagano, I assume that you plan on winter sports? Nagano city is not very big but makes for a good day trip.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel, so you recommend the 7 day pass initially and the bus on the 19th? Yes we are skiing in Hakuba for 11 days.

Hi again!

Yes that is what I would do myself. Nice to know may be that, the JR Pass also covers the entire way to Hakuba (not just Nagano).
