Hi,

Can I just purchase one JR west Kansai pass and travel around these areas ?

And Could I ask, if I can travel with what kinds of transportation in the Kansai areas.

In addition, do i have to purchase online before my trip to Japan, or I have to purchase it at Japan when i arrived there ?

Hope to hear soon and thanks in advance!

Best regards
Carol

Hi there,

Yes the JR Kansai pass allows you to travel to the above places, excluding Fuji. The Kansai pass can be purchased on arrival at Kansai Airport or at the bigger station in the Kansai regions, such as Kyoto or Osaka.

One thing you may want to check out before buying the pass is normal ticket prices as travel between Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe is not expensive at all and the Kansai Pass may even cost more. In general I would only recommend if you visit more remote parts within Kansai, such as Himeji.

Hop this helps!

Hi Daniel,

But does the kansai pass includes the subways transport as well ?

As the hotels that I am staying are nearer to Shinimamiya station.
So I have to take public transport a lot from Shinimamiya station to Shin-Osaka station & Namba or other places.

As I will be staying at Osaka permanently, will travel from Osaka to other different places everyday (going for 9 days).
For e.g. 1st day -- Osaka > Kyoto > Osaka , 2nd day -- Osaka > Kyoto > Nara > Osaka .. etc

So will that saves me more than Just buying the normal tickets. ? thanks.

Regards
Carol

Hi Carol,

Basically the Kansai Pass costs 2000 yen a day or a little less if you buy it for 3 or 4 days and is valid for JR lines only.

For instance a one way Osaka - Kyoto is 560 yen, Osaka - Nara ¥ 800 and Osaka - Kobe ¥ 410.

It's hard to say exactly if you'll be making savings with local travel within Osaka added in (on JR lines) but the difference will be small.

Hope this helps!

I posted the above replay before I saw your entire itinerary.

Since you visit Kinosaki Onsen as well, have a look at the Kansai Wide Pass. This may be a better option than the Kansai pass.

Basically the difference is the area is covers and what kind of trains. The Wide pass covers a ''wider'' area which includes Kinosaki Onsen, Kuarashiki and Shirahama - to name a few. The wide pass also allows you to travel on limited express trains and even some Shinkansen. It's also a little more expensive but generally a much better deal.

Details can be found here:
https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/travel-information/pass/kansai_wide/

As for travel time, I would stick to a single day trip to Nara (you can see everything in 3/4 of a day). Also Kinosaki and Koya seems a bit excessive for a single day. It would be better to take two days to visit both, especially given the amount of travel time involved.

You can buy it upon arrival at Kansai Airport, Kyoto or Osaka station.

Hi Daniel,

Do kansai wide pass covers the trip to Fujinomiya station or Mt Fuji visit.
As we are still thinking if it worths the trip down to to see Mt Fuji .

In addition, what are the areas / stations that Kansai wide pass covers.
Also, how many days do you think is enough for us to travel in Osaka (tourist destination would be fine.)

Thanks a million for your replies !

Hi Carol,

No travel to Fuji is not included and you'd basically have to pay for the full ticket.

Here is the area it covers.

I would recommend at least 3 days for Osaka if you have the time available but there's enough to keep you busy for weeks.

Hope this helps!

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the info. This are my confirmed itinerary.
Adn would not make any more changes. Does this look good.

Day 1: Arrival Osaka
Day 2: Kyoto
Day 3: Kyoto
Day 4: Nara & last part of Kyoto
Day 5: Mount Koya
Day 6: Kinosaki Onsen - staying there overnight
Day 7: osaka
Day 8: Osaka
Day 9: Kobe & Himeji
Day 10: flying back home.

May I ask, for Kinosaki Onsen & Arima Onsen .. which do u recommend .
Im trying to keep our budget between low to medium. So we weren't sure, if it is more worth it to stay overnight at Kobe or Kinosaki ?

Thank you so much !

best regards
Carol

Hi Carol,

Yes that looks good!

Personally I prefer Kinosaki-Onsen as it is a very beautiful onsen town and the Ryokan are a great experience to stay at.
However if you wish to travel on a budget, than Arima Onsen may be a better option.\

All the best!

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your helpful information & advices !

I would love to ask you, would it better for me to book the kansai widepass online for reservation before my flight to Japan. Or is it alright (or safe enough) to purchase it at the kansai airport, as I will be arriving there at 10.25pm, but the purchasing pass shop is closed at 11pm.

Thanks, and hope to hear from u very soon !

Best Regards
Carol
