We will be arriving in Kansai at night and plan to take the Haruka Express to Kyoto where we will be staying for 4 nights. We also want to go to Nara on a day tour from Kyoto as well as go around Kyoto and Arashimaya. On our 5th day we will proceed to Osaka and stay for another 4 nights, and go to Universal, Osaka Castle, etc. We will also want to see Kobe for a day trip. Then we leave via Kansai on our 9th day. Is it good to buy the JR Kansai pass for a total of 9 days (4 days, 4 days and 1 day?), or just get the one day pass and take buses and trains for the short trips and pay as we go? We are a family of 5 and it is our first time in Japan.
JR Kansai Pass for KIX-Kyoto-Osaka
Hello there,
I would not recommend the JR Kansai Pass for your travel, this pass is rather limited in use and you would need to do at least 2,000yen worth of travel to make the pass pay off. Additionally you can only buy on Kansai Pass per visit to Japan.
Instead I would recommend the Haruka + ICOCA package for travel from Kansai Airport - Kyoto, you can later use the ICOCA card for travel around Kansai without having to buy a tickets each time.
Hope this helps!
Daniel
