itinerary and JR stations

I am going to buy a 14 day JR pass for my trip in Japan. I plan to take trains as much as possible. I have a few questions:

  1. From Tokyo to Sapporo, is it more convenient to leave from Tokyo or Narita airport? What is the JR station name?
  2. I plan to visit Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka and Fuji mountain. Should my itinerary be Fuji mountain, Osaka, Sapporo and then Tokyo OR Sapporo, Fujin mountain, Osaka, Tokyo?
  3. I will arrive Narita at 8:55 pm. Can I still exchange the JRpass? Is it too late to take train to Tokyo? Should I stay in the hotel near the airport?

Sorry for so many questions.

Many thanks.

Hi there,

1.) You always travel via Tokyo station if you want to go to Sapporo by train. The station names are simply Narita Airport Terminal 1/2, Tokyo station and Sapporo station.

2.) I think the 2nd option works better as you travel down in a straight line.

3.) The Narita Exchange office is open until 21:45, so you may not be in time to exchange the JR Pass on the same day. It may be better to stay near the airport if you want to play it save but I do think there is enough time to travel to Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
