Itinerary - Do I need a JR pass?

Hi. My family and I will be in Japan from December 9 to 21.

Our itinerary is as follows:

Dec 9 - Osaka (3 nights, with a day trip to Kyoto)
Dec 12 - Mt. Fuji (overnight)
Dec 13 - Hakuba (two nights, hoping to ski and go around the area, check out snow monkeys and the ninja training ground)
December 15 up to 21 - Tokyo

Would it be worth it to get a 7-day JR pass for Dec. 9 - 15?

Thank you!

Hi there,

I checked your itinerary but was unable to give you a complete answer. This because the area around Fuji is quite large and there are many different routes. Could you let me know what station you will arrive at near Fuji? This way I can give you the best advise possible.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel. Thanks for answering.

Here is a more comprehensive list of our itinerary:

Dec. 9 - Kansai International Airport to Shinimamiya Station in Osaka
Dec. 12 - From Shinimamiya to Chuo Expressway Kawaguchiko (7 minutes away by car from Kyozantei Ubuya)
Dec. 13 - Chuo Expressway Kawaguchiko to Hakuba Station (Hotel Hakuba)
Dec. 15 - Hakuba Station to Heiwadai Station in Nerima, Tokyo

Do you think we'll be able to maximize use of a JR pass for our trip?

Hi again!

This makes it easier. I checked the route that you will be traveling and must say that it would be better to buy normal tickets than purchase a JR Pass for this. Mainly because part of the route to Kawaguchiko is traveled on Non-JR transport and thus not covered. This also applies for part of the route from Kawaguchiko to Hakuba.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
