Hi JRpass team,

Can I check if JR 7 days pass can be used for traveling within Osaka and Kyoto?

Is there any exception for the use of JRpass?

I will be traveling to osaka, Kyoto, Kanazawa and back to Tokyo.

Can I use the pass to travel within each of the cities?

Thank you.

Hi there,

Travel between all these cities is covered by the JR Pass and its also longer travel where you'll get the best possible savings with the JR Pass.

The JR Pass is also valid for local JR lines within cities. In Tokyo and Osaka you can see most of the city this way. In other cities such as Kyoto and Kanazawa, local JR lines are limited and you may have to use additional transport for travel within the cities.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi again,

If you can, consdier renting a bicycle in Kyoto/Kanazawa. This is by far the best way to explore both cities.

Otherwise for Kyoto you can buy a 500yen bus day ticket, which offers great value too. As a normalbus ride is 230yen. In Kyoto the best way of public transport are generally buses.
