Hi, I will be travelling to Japan for the first time... 5 Days, 4 nights.

Day 1 - Tokyo
Day 2 - Kyoto
Day 3 - Osaka - Nara - Kyoto (is this possbile in a day?) planning to book 2 nights in Kyoto
Day 4 - Back to Tokyo
Day 5 - Fly home

Will the 7-day JR Pass save me money?

Hello there,

Yes the JR Pass will be of good use here. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto on the Shinkansen. Basically any additional travel is what you save, this includes local travel on JR lines, travel to the airport and other day trips such as to Nara/Osaka.

As for day 3, visiting both Nara and Osaka on a single day may be too much. Both places offer more than enough to keep you busy for a full day and traveling between cities will just lose you time.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
