i will be making a trip to Tokyo from the 22 feb - 27 feb. My plan includes a day trip to Hakone, Kyoto and usual travel within tokyo for sightseeing. does a seven day pass be value for money? or is it better for me to buy my tickets as per my travel.

Yes the JR Pass will work great here! The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto, now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price. You can for instance use it for travel to Hakone on the Shinkansen and within Tokyo on the local JR Network.
