Hi there,
The 14 day JR Pass would not help you make savings. However a 7 day JR Pass would certainly be a good option if you made the return Tokyo - Kyoto using it. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket, so any additional travel basically is the bonus you get with the pass :)
