I will be traveling from Tokyo to Osaka, Osaka for 5 days, in between I will go to Nara and Kyoto, lastly from Osaka back to Tokyo for 4 days, is it worth it to get the JR pass? As I will be traveling for 9 days. The last two days in Tokyo I won't have the JR pass to travel around and I saw the others comments/replies that in Kyoto most subway do not accept JR pass. So what's the best option in your opinion? As my last two days is a problem, does Tokyo have a pass that's affordable for me to travel around the subway/buses in Tokyo for the past two days and for me to travel back to Narita airport?

Hi there,

Yes, its worth using a 7 day JR Pass for your trip. When considering the JR Pass, its best to look at longer routes, as these are by far the most expansive. While local travel generally does not cost that much.

The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same prices, which is great if you plan on doing any additional travel.

For Kyoto, I recommend buying a 500yen bus ticket. Its valid for a full day and very economic compared to single rides, as a one time bus ride is 230yen.

In Tokyo, you can buy day tickets for the Metro.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
