I was wondering if it is worth getting a JR pass or buy tickets along the way? We will be arriving in Osaka on March 19th and leaving from Tokyo on March 31st.
19 Arrive in Osaka
20 Day trip to Kobe then stay in Osaka
21 Travel to Kyoto
22 Kyoto
23 Nara
24 Travel to Tokyo
31 Depart Tokyo.

You can look at using a Kansai Area Pass for travel around Kansai (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto and Nara) and then buy a one way ticket to Tokyo.
Within Tokyo you could use day passes for the metro or Suica.
