Dear Daniel,
We (3 travelers) have purchased our 21 day green JR rail passes for our May 9 -31, 2016 trip. Using Hyperdia.com website, we have a list of the exact Shinkansen train numbers and times written in Japanese. Is it considered rude to request 6 sets of Shinkansen tickets at one time? And if so, what is maximum number of sets considered polite?

Dear Dianne,

I've done so multiple times when travelling and this never was a problem. If anything, the JR Staff seemed to enjoy seeing where I'd visit.

Keep in mind that this could depend on how busy it is, some of the bigger stations like Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka also have a special desk for JR Pass users. These may be ideal for booking multiple tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
