Hello,
I am planning the route for our 14 days travel in Japan staring in April. We plan to take a train from Sjinjuki to Kamakura on Sunday April 17. When I check the timetable for that day, Hyperdia shows the message at the the timetable list in regards to day of the week,
R Shonan-Shinjuku Line(Via Tokaido Line) SHINJUKU(JR) - HIRATSUKA

Business day:Sat & Holiday

April 17 is Sunday and Hyperdia indicates: "Sat & Holiday". Would this timetable applicable to Sunday? If not, how do we get Sunday timetable?
Thank you so much for your help,

Maria

Hi Maria,

Simply search for the day that you want to travel in Hyperdia and it will give the correct information.

I can't say for sure by just looking at this, whether it would also apply on a Sunday.

Thank you!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Thank you very much for your reply.

The issue is that I did searched for the exact date that I need to travel which is Sunday April 17. So my concern is, will the train that I want to take available on Sunday, because the message is: "Business day:Sat & Holiday". I also checked a lot of other trains on Sunday and all have the same message: "Business day:Sat & Holiday". Does it mean that Sunday is considered a Holiday on Hyperdia?

Thank you,

Maria

Hi Daniel,
One more question if you don't mind. We plan to go to Nikko from Shinjuki usin JR pass. Hyperdia shows a JR train at 7:30 am with no transfers. Is it correct that JR pass will cover this trip or do we need to pay supplement ( of so, how do I find out how much I need to pay extra)?

Total:¥ 4,000(TicketFare:¥ 1,940 Seat Fee:¥ 2,060) Commuting ticket(1mon:¥ --- 3mon:¥ --- 6mon:¥ --- )

Thank you,
Maria

Hi Maria,

This part is indeed not covered by the JR Pass, I believe a fare of around 2,000yen would be collected.

You can however use the JR Pass to travel for Free to Nikko via Shinjuku - Tokyo - Utsumiya - Nikko.

There are more transfers but I believe its actually faster too.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for the information. I assume that 2,000 yen is one way supplement.

When I did the search on Hyperdia, I even unchecked private railroads box and still got the route that I mentioned only to find out from you that is not covered by JR.

We will be doing a lot of train travels and hoping to use JR pass. How can I tell by looking at Hyperdia ( or other websites) if the route is covered by JR pass and what the additional charges may be.

Thank you for all your help,

Maria

Hi Maria,

Hyperdia is techically right, this route is on a JR Train but part of the tracks are owned by an other company, hence the extra fare. This is however something you will rarely encounter, the JR Pass does list the exceptions.

In 99.9% you can trust Hyperdia.
