Dear sir,

I am from Taiwan. My itinerary is as the following. Would like to find out the most economical way with JR transportation. Your help is great appreciated.

8/15 From Sapporo to Biei, Furano back to Asahikawa

8/17 From Asahikawa to Kamikawa, visit Sounkyo, back to Sapporo

8/18 From Sapporo to Toyako, then stay in Noboribetsu

8/19 from Noboribetsu to New Chitose airport

Looks like the JR three days pass do not include the trip from Sapporo to Asahikawa.

I would like to confirm if the special ticket from Sapporo to Furano, Biei, 5,400 Yen for four days trip is available.
What is the best way for the trip to Toyako, then Noboribetsu and back to airport on 8/18, 19?

Thank you in advance

Sharon

Hi Sharon!

Both the JR Pass and JR Hokkaido pass include travel all trough Hokkaido including Sapporo - Asahikawa.
I do think it would be best to look into getting a JR Hokkaido pass for your travels as your will only be staying in Hokkaido!

I think a 5 day Hokkaido Railpass would be your best option, because you can use it to cover all of your travel around Hokkaido including your visit to Lake Toya and Noboribestsu.

Both Lake Toya and Noboribestsu are on the same train line so you can just get out at one station, enjoy the area and take the next train to continue your jouney. On the way back to the Airport, take the train back to Sapporo and transfer there to the Airport Express, heading to New Chitose Airport.

As for the Furano - Biei ticket, there was an other person asking about this in the forum as well. I have not yet used one myself and found it hard to find any information about it on the internet but I think it is still available from what I could find.

I hope this helps!

Thank you Daniel for the reply.

From your comment about the travel of Noboribetsu to New Chitose airport. Do we have to go all the way back to Sapporo? I thought it is in the middle and we can get off the JR when it reaches the New Chitose station.

Hi Sharon,

That's how I did it last time, I looked up the route and the route does always involve a transfer either at Sapporo or Minami-Chitose. It does appear that you route via Minami-Chitose is a lot quicker, so I would recommend taking that one :)
