I will be touring hokkaido in september 2013.
I am purchasing hokkaido railpass.
Although the detail provide on website on hokkaido rail pass is very clear,
I am still not too sure regarding the following:-

1) Will the pass allow me to travel from Chitose new airport to Asahikawa?
Is it that the train will have to stop over at Sapporo station? Do I have to change train or it will proceed direct to Asahikawa?

2) Will the pass allow me to travel from Sapporo station to Hakodate and back from Hakodate to Sapporo?

3) I will be using the pass to travel from Chitose to Asahikawa for a wedding reception for four days.
Subsequently I will be staying in Sapporo to tour around Otaru, Furano, and Hakodate. Will this pass allow me to travel around all this places round trip in the remaining three days, if I purchase a 7 days rail pass?

4) I have to say that the expalination on the website regarding the rail pass is quite clear, however.
I am quite confuse over the different train line on the website. can you please state here clearly to me what is the name of the train that my pass does not allow me to board? I am rather confuse over the explaination on the web.

Thank you and awaits your early reply.

Hi there,

A JR Hokkaido pass allows for unlimited travel on any train in Hokkaido, this includes new Chitose Airport - Asahikawa, Otaru, Furano etc.

As for route information, here is a complete map with all stations in Hokkaido and how trains travel. For instance the route from the Airport to Asahikawa always involves a tranfer @ Sapporo station.

About I am quite confuse over the different train line on the website.
can you please state here clearly to me what is the name of the train that my pass does not allow me to board?

I am getting a little confused here what you mean, I'd be more that happy to help out clarify something if you rephrase your question.

Best Regards,
Daniel

Thank you to Daniel for the useful information in the reply.

Can the JR pass I purchased in my country be used for my travel from Hakodate to shin aomori?

My purpose is to experience the bullet train.
Can I make use of the same pass to travel from Shinaomori station to Hachinohe on a round trip by shinkansen bullet train
without having to pay extra fare?

If possible, may I have the timetable stating schedule for this locations?

Thank you.

Hello there,

I think I am confuse over the Hokkaido rail pass and the Japan rail pass.

If I purchase a Japan Rail Pass in my country which last 7 days, can I make use of the
pass for all the travel in Hokkaido , and can I also make use of the same pass within the
7 days to travel between Hakodate to Shinaomori ?

Can I also use the same Japan Rail Pass to travel by bullet train (Tohoku shinkansen )
on a round trip between Shinaomori station and Hachinohe station? (In this case, the
Japan east rail pass is a different pass from the one I purchase in my country, or same?)

I am so confuse over this. I need to purchase the Pass for my travel in my country and
I am still confuse which pass should I purchase.

Thank you.

Hi there,

You can use the JR Pass nation wide in Japan, including Hokkaido and also between Hakodate and Shin Aomori.
You can also use the JR Pass to travel on the Shinkansen between Shin Aomori and Hachinohe.

The JR East Pass, is a different pass all together, aside from the Nation Wide JR Pass and Hokkaido JR Pass.

I would suggest buying the nation wide JR Pass as this will both cover your travel in Hokkaido and also in Tohoku (Aomiri to Hachinohe).

You can find the time table for all train routes on Hyperdia the train between Shin Aomori and Shin-Aomori runs every 30 minutes.

I hope this helps!
