Hi,
This is my first time to Japan and I'm planning to visit Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo. Will reach narita airport on 17 march and heading directly to Kyoto for 4 days. In between I will do a one day trip in Osaka. Then heading to Tokyo for 5 days. Should I get a 7 day JR railway pass? When should I activate? Cause it will expire when I'm in Tokyo. Or how should I head back to narita from shin Koenji (place where I stay in Tokyo) with cheaper option?

Pls help.

Thanks

Maggie

Hi Maggie,

A JR Pass would work very well here. The 7 day JR pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the bullet train and it is easy to make savings if you cover any additional transport with it, even if it is just one way Tokyo - Narita Airport. The make the best savings, use it from day 1-7 and then buy normal tickets for the last couple of days in Tokyo. Travel around the metropolis does not cost that much and there are also day tickets available, such as the Tokyo Metro day pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
