I understand that Hayabusa train requires mandatory seat reservation. I wish to find out whether it is safe or possible to reserve the seat on the day of travel?

Hi there,

Generally its even fine to reserve your seat 20 minutes or so before departure.

However on busy periods like Goldenweek, New Year and Obon, its better to do so a couple of days in advance.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

PS: Note that the Hayabusa Shinkansen only travels to Shin-Hakodate station, from there a limited express service runs to Sapporo. The full route is covered by the JR Pass.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
