We are Americans who will be traveling between Tokyo, Hamamatsu, and Kyoto April 28-May 8, 2014. What is the advantage of the first class pass? Also, can we reserve seats prior to our arrival on April 28? I understand that we will be there during a very busy travel time. Thank you, Kathy Swenson

Hi Kathy Swenson,

We have a great blog post with all the details and what to expect of Green Class. One things it does not mention - which perhaps is the most important reason to consider Green Class - is that Green Class is that most people travel in 2nd Class and Green Class is a lot more quiet and relaxed to travel in.

Although it is not possible to reserve seats before your arrival, I don't think that this should be a problem when you land on the 28th.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Hi again,

All cars are non-smoking. There are special smoking compartments located throughout the train.
