Hi

I was wondering if the pass covers all the shinkansen lines without additional fees? Also, I was wondering if I can travel up from Tokyo to Sapporo with the JR pass without any addition money? And how about Tokyo down to Kyoto, is there additional fees for that as well?

Thanks so much!

Hi Dorely,

Everything you wish to visit, including Sapporo and Kyoto are covered by the JR Pass, so you won't have to pay any additional fees. With the JR Pass you can travel on every kind of Shinkansen line you wish, some type of train (Nozomi and Mizuhou) are not covered by the JR Pass but you can take the Hikari Shinkansen instead, which makes a couple more stops on the way but travels the same route.

Also see our interactive map to get a feel of all that is covered by the JR Pass.

Have a great time in Japan,
Daniel
