Hi,

I will be taking the following route:

Tokyo --> Hakone --> Kyoto (from Odawara) --> Osaka and flying out from Osaka.

Do you think the Japan rail pass is valuable for me? I will be going to Nara from Kyoto and spending 2 days in Tokyo as well.

Thanks for you help.

Hi,
A 7 day pass would not pay off for a one way itinerary like yours.
If you also added a day trip to Hiroshima & Miyajima then you would at least break even.

For Hakone, take the bullet train from Tokyo and get off at Odawara Stn., then to save money, buy a Hakone Free Pass. After seeing the area, return but go to Mishima Stn., then catch the next bullet train to Kyoto. The Hakone Loop Course is a common way to see the area.

Good luck.
