Hi, I'll be in Japan for 5 weeks and traveling heavily in the first and the last week. Can I buy a 14-days pass and use in the first and the last week? Or do I have to use 14 days straight?

Hello there,
A JR Pass is always in consecutive days, so you have to use it for a 7, 14 or 21 day period. You can however purchase multiple passes for instance 2x7 days.
That is of course given that you do enough travel with it to make savings.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
