So this is my proposed itinerary so far but im open to suggestions to changes dates/travel times if you feel like I'm doing too much in ne day or travelling to far. My main concern is trying to determine whether I can make the most of the JR pass or whether I should buy individual tickets? Heres the route....:

Date Arrival/Destination
5th Sept Travel Manchester to Tokyo 11:10am
6th Sept Arrive at Tokyo 8:40am
7th Sept Tokyo
8th Sept Tokyo (day trip to Nikko)
9th Sept Tokyo to Mount Fuji (am) (climb Fuji)
10th Sept Fuji to Matsumoto (pm)
11th Sept Alpine Tour (9hours) to Kanazawa City
12th Sept Kanazawa City
13th Sept Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go then to Takayama
14th Sept Takayama to Koyto (pm)
15th Sept Kyoto
16th Sept Kyoto
17th Sept Kyoto
18th Sept Kyoto to Hiroshima (am) - Hiroshima to Nara (pm)
19th Sept Nara to Tokyo (pm)
20th Sept Tokyo
21st Sept Travel Tokyo to Manchester 10:30am

Let me know what you think, thank you :)

Hi there,

I think you'd be looking at a 14 day JR Pass. This would give you very good savings with travel to Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima and back to Tokyo (not to forget all the rest).

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Your trip does look busy but can work technically, the best thing to do is make a day itinerary for each day, where you write out every trip you will make, what transport to use and related.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel, that's helped a lot.

Do you think there is any part of the trip that should be changed, i.e. remove one of the trips (ie. do either Nikko or Nara and not both?) / spend extra days in a certain place? I want to make sure I see as much as possible but don't want it to be rushed? Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Lyndsey

Hi Lyndsey,

I don't see anything I'd drop. Nara and Nikko are quite distinct (at least to me) and visiting both would be worth it.

There's always a balance between planning in visits and not planning too much when you are on a schedule. Maybe a bit more time in Hiroshima would be nice but not sure where you'd take it from.

Enjoy!
Daniel
